Lee; Ju-Hsush YangItem A comparative study on post-class lecture video viewing.(2006-01-01) 楊如雪The objective of this study was to compare students’ willingness and viewing behaviour on using taped lecture videos for their studies after class. The lecture video was taped from one section and made available to both sections of the same course. Although both sections of the same course were taught by the same instructor, students in one section could view lecture videos that were familiar to them in terms of learning contents and classroom settings, while students in the other section were viewing lecture videos that were only familiar to them in terms of learning contents. Data including course website usage statistics, student questionnaires, student interviews, and course instructor interviews was collected and analyzed. The study yielded two main results: (1) Students were more willing to use the taped class lectures for the purpose of reviewing if the lecture videos were captured from their own section; (2) Those students that had higher application-specific self-efficacy were more inclined to use the taped lecture videos for reviewing purpose.Item Design and Implementation of Video-enabled Web-based Pronunciation Debugging System.(2007-07-20) 楊如雪; Chiung-Fang Chiu; Greg C Lee; and Ju-Hsush YangItem Supporting a Teaching Practicum Course with a PCK Knowledge-Sharing System.(2006-03-19) 楊如雪; Pei-Yu Wang; Mei-Chuen Lin; Mu-San Kao; Ju-Hsueh YangIn this research we developed a pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) sharing system to support a teaching practicum course which was taken by 49 students being trained to become Chinese language arts teachers at secondary schools. The system dynamically collects and stores PCK items created by students as the course proceeds through the entire semester. The items include lesson plans, student worksheets, handouts, tests, journals and video clips of students' teaching practices. These items are structured around an underlying content knowledge (CK) database which stores more than 200 pieces of writings and related knowledge. As such, each PCK item is put in a meaningful context for evaluation and discussion. Related functionalities provided by the system include My Wok Area, online journals, message boxes and a discussion forum. Results from user interviews, a questionnaire survey and observation about users' on-line behavior all confirm that this system helps the course to function much more effectively.Item Use of Video-enabled Web based CMC to Facilitate Oral Conversation Drill.(2006-07-13) 楊如雪; Chiung-Fang Chiu; Lee, G.C.; Ju-Hsush YangThis study investigates how video-enabled Web-based Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) system can be effectively used in a local dialect learning course to enhance students' learning. Eighteen students enrolled in the course used the system to complete course related activities. Students' in class oral conversation drills were videotaped and made available for viewing on a CMC system. After each class, students and course instructor can give both textual and audio feedback to each student's in class oral conversation drill on the CMC system to foster interactions, which were fewer in the classroom due to limited class time. Furthermore, students can access the video to self-evaluate their oral conversations as often as necessary and monitor their personal growth. It was found that this video-enabled CMC system is valuable in improving quality of feedback and in increasing students' reflection. The audio feedback given by instructor was especially useful for correcting their pronunciation and utterance.
