Item Effects of Guided Collaboration on Sixth Graders' Performance in Logo Programming(IEEE, 2007-10-10) Lin, Janet Mei-Chuen; Li, Yun-Lung; Ho, Rong-Guey; Li, Chia-ChenIn this study we investigated whether guided collaboration would enhance elementary school students' achievement in learning to program in MSWLogo. Ninty- four sixth graders were randomly assigned to the individual-learning group, the free-collaboration group or the guided-collaboration group. All students were taught to follow the problem-solving steps of analysis, design, coding, debugging, and reflection, but only students of the guided-collaboration group were provided a worksheet that aimed to force students to carry out all specified activities at each step. A statistical analysis of students' test scores showed that the guided-collaboration group significantly outperformed the other two groups. The differences among the low achievers of the three groups were especially significant, indicating that they had benefited the most from guided collaboration. It was also found that guided collaboration promoted meaningful discussions among students, which had contributed to their better understanding of programming concepts and problem-solving skills, and hence better test scores.Item Integrating ICT in Teaching Chinese Language and Literature(Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), 2002-06-24) Lin, Janet Mei-Chuen; Ho, Rong-GueyEight Chinese Language and Literature teachers participated in this research to make their first attempts at integrating information and communications technologies (ICT) into curriculum. They were provided training in common application tools and then paired up to develop ICT-based courseware for use in classroom teaching. Four units of courseware thus developed were field-taught to 169 students. Results of a questionnaire survey conducted after field-teaching indicate that most students prefer ICT-based lectures to conventional ones because ICT offers such benefits as making the lectures more interesting, enhancing the mood of the class, providing richer material than usual, and improving teacher-student interaction.Item Evaluation of an inservice teacher training program for ICT integration(The Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), 2004-06-21) Wu, Cheng-Chih; Chen, Ya-Hua; Lee, Greg C.; Ho, Rong-Guey; Chiou, Guey-FaThe objective of this study is to evaluate a nationwide implemented teacher professional development program in Taiwan. The program is designed to provide teachers with the skills to effectively integrate information and communication technology (ICT) into the existing curriculum. We investigated the effectiveness of the training program and its impacts on the participated teachers and their schools. The evaluation framework is based on Kirkpatrick's Four Levels Training Evaluation Model. The evaluation results showed that the majority of the participated teachers were satisfied with the training program and considered it would help them effectively integrating ICT into their instruction. It also showed that a high percentage of the teachers had been doing more ICT related activities in teaching preparation, in conducting classroom activities, and in interacting with colleagues since completing the training.Item The Design of the Computer Curricular Essential in Elementary and Junior High School in Taiwan(2000-05-29) Ho, Rong-Guey; Wu, Cheng-Chih; Lan, Yu-Ju; Lai, Chin-YuanItem Incorporating Web-Based CMC in the Methods and the Practicum Courses of Preservice Teachers(The Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), 1999-02-28) Wu, Cheng-Chih; Lee, Greg C.; Chiou, Guey-Fa; Ho, Rong-GueyCMC has started its influence of the teacher education programs in Taiwan. In this paper, we present the implementation of a web-based CMC system in our computer teacher education program. Thirty-four students enrolled in the Teaching Methods and Teaching Practicum courses were encouraged to use the system throughout the school year. Experienced high school teachers were asked to lead the discussions with the students in the CMC system. Survey results indicate that the web-based CMC system is an effective tool for facilitating preservice teachers' training, but the moderation skills of the experienced teachers need to be further improved.Item STNet: A Network-Supported Environment for Student Teachers(The Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), 1999-02-28) Chiou, Guey-Fa; Ho, Rong-Guey; Wu, Cheng-Chih; Lee, Greg C.Adopting the rationale of reflective thinking as the underlying philosophy, we developed the Student Teacher Network (STNet) to support student teaching. STNet provides an online place where university supervisors, experienced school teachers, student teachers, and students in the preservice program can discuss teaching issues and browse resources asynchronously. The first year experience indicated that we need a more comprehensive rationale to guide the design and the implementation of the STNet, a resourcerich environment to support student teachers, an effective university-school partnership to sustain the STNet, and reconsideration of the whole teacher education program in order to infuse information technology into teacher education program. Building a systemic and distributed teacher education network is one of the feasible alternatives.Item The requirements for computer teacher certification in Taiwan(1997-06-30) Lin, Janet Mei-Chuen; Wu, Cheng-Chih; Ho, Rong-GueyItem A new computer guideline for senior high schools in Taiwan(1997-08-10) Wu, Cheng-Chih; Lin, Janet Mei-Chuen; Ho, Rong-GueyItem Item Evaluation of an Inservice Teacher Training Program for ICT Integration(2004-06-21) Wu, Cheng-Chih; Chen, Ya-Hua; Lee, Greg C.; Ho, Rong-Guey; Chiou, Guey-Fa
