Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of textbook editors' information needs and the information seeking behaviors induced to satisfy those needs. This study also compared the differences in textbook editors' information needs and information seeking behaviors across different contextual variables. This study took the executive editors and art editors working in Chuan Hwa Book as the research subjects. A questionnaire survey was adopted, using the self-developed "Survey on Information Needs and Information Seeking Behavior of Textbook Editors" as theresearch instrument. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with voluntary editors after the online questionnaires were collected to support the results of the questionnaire. A total of 53 valid questionnaires were returned, and three executive editors and two art editors were interviewed. The results were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA.This study found that textbook editors were most likely to have information needs in order to accomplish their work. In terms of information needs, professional skills, collaborative communication, and creative expression were needed, with the highest demand for creative expression. Search engines were the most commonly used channel for seeking information, and the resources they accessed included web pages and online communities. When seeking information, they attached the greatest importanceto the quality and availability of information. In addition, older textbook editors have a higher demand for information on the skills of taking photos; executive editors are more likely to obtain information through search engines, asking their supervisors or colleagues in the company who have relevant experience, their own experience and resources, and the company's training programs; and art editors are more likely to obtain information through online bookstores or brick-and-mortar bookstores, in addition to using search engines, their own experience and resources, and asking their supervisors or colleagues in the company who already possess the relevant experience. Finally, the conclusions and recommendations of this study are summarized for the reference of the textbook industry and future academic research.
