Students Academic Satisfaction and Career Planning: A Case of Department of Physical Education at National Taiwan Normal University June, 2009 Student: Yu Ju Lin Advisor: Chih Pin Shih Abstract This study aimed at understanding students academic satisfaction and career planning in the Department of Physical Education (PE) at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Furthermore, it explored differences in academic satisfaction and career planning based upon students background. In addition, the correlation between academic satisfaction and career planning were analyzed. Based on the results, recommendations for professional course of the Department of PE at NTNU, were provided. The study was performed through a questionnaire given to undergraduate students in the Department of PE at NTNU. The survey results were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, single factor variance and canonical correlation statistical analysis. To further quantify the results, 10 respondents were selected randomly and interviewed. After comprehensive discussion and data analysis, the conclusions were as follows: 1. As for students academic satisfaction of professional courses, "Learning Environment and Facilities" gained the highest satisfaction, followed by "Teaching of the Instructor". "Course Content" had low satisfaction since it could not satisfy simultaneously the needs of students who have taken educational program and students who have not. 2. College was a time to explore oneself. As such, students tended to perform better in "self-exploration" and "career exploration". However, due to the lack of concrete life plan, students tended to perform poorly in "career selection and planning". 3. As for Students academic satisfaction in professional courses, different genders and grades, ways of entrance, and whether students have taken educational program showed significant variance. 4. As for students career planning, different grades, career goals, ways of entrance, and whether students have taken educational program showed significant variance. 5. Students academic satisfaction of professional courses and career planning have been presented positive relations. "Course Content", "Teaching of the Instructor", "Learning Environment and Facilities", included in Students academic satisfaction were the main factors on influencing "Self-exploration", "Career Exploration", "career selection and career planning", which were included in career planning. Key words: Physical Education of National Taiwan Normal University, Academic Satisfaction, Career Planning
