Abstract

The study focuses on exploring TaiwanParent-child relationship between adolescents and their parents in Taiwanese family films. It analyzes the parent-child relationships and conflict resolution methods in these films based on the four parenting styles proposed by Diana Baumrind. The research uses textual analysis to extract parent-child conflict scenarios and behaviors from five Taiwanese films released from 2010 to 2021 for classification and analysis. The results show that these conflict events align with Diana Baumrind's four parenting styles and indicate that the democratic authoritative parenting style yields the best results, while the permissive indulgent and neglectful indifferent parenting styles can lead to adolescent problem behaviors. The authoritarian parenting style can affect a child's self-esteem and self-worth. Among the four films mentioned in the study, only the parenting style in "The Falls" undergoes a transformation, while the outcomes of parenting style changes in other films are unknown.Films often depict changes in parenting styles and growth through plot development and character transformations. However, the final outcomes may vary due to the arrangement of the film's plot and character development. The representation of traditional Taiwanese family education is influenced by various factors, leading to a lack of communication and problem-solving between parents and children.
