Abstract
In order to reduce the losses from COVID-19 pandemic, property or life insurance companies in Taiwan provide related insurance products. Consumers may purchase insurances to reduce the negative effects of getting infected by the corona virus. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate whether consumers’ decisions on purchasing life insurance products will be affected by COVID-19 pandemic. This research conducts questionnaire survey and ask people who have purchased life insurance products to fill out the questionnaires. The results indicate that major life insurance products people purchased before COVID-19 pandemic are the lifetime insurance, accident insurance such as disability, and lifetime medical insurance. The major insurance products people purchased after 2020 are accident insurance such as disability, lifetime medical insurance, and fixed term medical insurance. The results show that consumers emphasize more on the medical protection after the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affects the reasons which consumers purchase life insurance products. The results also indicate that women’s and men’s opinions are significantly different in why they purchase life insurance before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is insignificant difference between women and men about insurance types they purchase. In choosing a life insurance company, there are significant differences between women and men in the “the efficiency on how the insurance companies settling the claim” and “protection of insurance products due to COVID-19”.
