This study explores the impact of financial literacy on credit card debt in China and illustrates the impact of different background factors on the same. For these purposes, this study uses data from the 2015 China Household Finance Survey (CHFS), to select appropriate and consistent questions to conduct the analysis. The analysis was carried out by descriptive statistics, independent sample T-test, analysis of variance, two-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple regression analysis, and binary logit model. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows:1. The credit card debt situation in Chinese households is relatively good. Only 9.8% of households have credit card debt, and the average household credit card balance amounts to 2,409 RMB.2. Financial literacy in China needs improvement. Most householders tend to neglect financial information and attitude and are unwilling to take on risky goods.3. The factors of gender, age, marriage, education, health, rural residency, income, assets, the study of financial courses, financial knowledge, financial attitude, and risk preferences of Chinese householders, play significantly different roles in determining credit card balance.4.
