The Effect of Sports Intervention on the Health-related Physical Fitness of Elementary Students --- Using Badminton Camp as an Example Abstract The purpose of this study is to inquire into the effect of “Sports Intervention” on the health-related Physical Fitness condition of elementary students. Subjects were chosen from the 4th through 6th grade elementary students of the Experimental High School. The studied students were divided into two groups: an experimental group of Badminton Camp participants and a control group. Both groups were given a pretest on health-related Physical Fitness. The experimental group then participated in an 18-week Badminton Camp, while the control group maintained their regular PE classes. Posttests were given after the competition of the camp on health-related Physical Fitness. The study showed significant difference within the experimental group between the two genders in BMI and sitting bend-over, among different year grades in health-related Physical Fitness, and among students with different academic performances in 800 meter run. The experimental group then participated in an 18-week Badminton Camp which showed significant difference in each category of health-related Physical Fitness. Thus it is concluded that “Badminton Camp” did produce a training effect for experimental group, and it could make up for the lack of PE classes to achieve the “333” health-related Physical Fitness promotion project. Key words: health-related Physical Fitness, badminton camp, elementary students
