Abstract

Purpose:The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences and relationships between the stability, hang time, and judge scoring of side kick movements in the Taekwondo Poomsae Koryo competition among athletes from different age groups. Methods:Participants included 36 Taekwondo Poomsae athletes: 6 male and 6 female university-level athletes, 6 male and 6 female senior high school athletes, and 6 male and 6 female junior high school athletes. Each athlete wore pressure-sensing insoles while performing Koryo movements and their actions were synchronously recorded by high-definition (HD) cameras. Two Grade A Poomsae judges scored all side kick movements from the collected videos. the hang time after side kicks was recorded, and stability was evaluated based on the distribution of the plantar pressure center. Statistical analysis was conducted using one-way ANOVA to observe differences in stability, hang time, and judges’ scores among different age groups, with a significance level set at α = .05.Results:No significant differences were found in hang time, stability, or judges’ scores among different age groups. Conclusion:After regular practice, it was observed that no differences were noted of technical maturity, stability control, and movement variability among ages. It is recommended to strengthen the basic skill training for junior high school athletes and provide personalized training plans according to the ages of different athletes.
