The rise and fall of the convenience store industry is an important indicator of people’s livelihood consumption, making it an important social context phenomenon in Taiwan. Convenience store clerks are required to learn a wide range of abilities and execute various duties in changing and unforeseen work settings due to the vast variety of products and services provided by convenience stores; therefore, it is important for them to perform their work correctly and efficiently in a timely manner. In an attempt to stress the necessity of workforce agility among convenience store clerks on account of the unique job features of convenience store, the present study proposes that job characteristics of convenience store possibly influence individuals’ workforce agility. Furthermore, the present study also investigates different perceptions of workforce agility among different demographic factors. The survey sample was collected among 349 convenience store clerks in Taiwan via online questionnaire. IBM SPSS 23.0 was utilized to analyze the data and test the hypotheses through descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, independent-samples t-test analysis, and one-way ANOVA analysis. The results and findings showed that workforce agility will be enhanced by enriched job characteristics; further, differences in employment status and job tenure will place different perceptions on workforce agility. The present study fulfilled the research gaps as well as contributed to the literature regarding the association between job characteristics and workforce agility. It is highly recommended that corporations begin to consider the impact of job characteristics on workforce agility, re-evaluate their strategies for boosting individual and organizational agility, and optimize job design to enhance the overall well-being of employees, organizations, and stakeholders.en_US
