Abstract
The purpose of this research is to discuss the relationship among the experience of the halfway house services using, social support and life quality of the residents of the halfway houses in Taiwan, and to test the mediated effect of social support on the experience of the halfway-house services using and the quality of life. This research adopted the questionnaire survey method and collected a total of 212 residents’ data of the halfway houses. The questionnaire consisted of 5 sessions, the first of which is demographic information of the respondents; the second of which is the scale of service using of halfway houses; the third of which is the scale of the autonomy perception for the residents of the halfway houses; the fourth of which is the scale of social support and the fifth of which is Taiwan condensed version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed and hypothesis validated through SPSS Statistics 29 software. The main findings of the research are as follows:1. Regarding the degree of service using of the residents of halfway houses, the use of home life self-care services was higher than that of interpersonal interaction and community adaptation services.2. Regarding the social supports for the residents of halfway houses, the informational support was the most common followed by the appraisal support and assistive support, and the emotional support was the least.3. Regarding the quality of life of the residents of the halfway house, the evaluation of the environment was rated best, followed by social relations and physical health, and the psychological quality was the worst. However, comparing the norm data of NHIS, the quality of life of residents of the halfway houses was still lower than that of the general Taiwanese population.4. There was a significant positive correlation between the overall experience of the halfway houses service using and social support and the quality of life of the residents of the halfway houses.5. The explanatory power of the class regression model on the overall quality of life was 46.2%, and"side effects of current drug use", "interpersonal interaction and community adaptation to the degree of the halfway house services using", "autonomy of living in halfway houses", " evaluative support" and "assistive support" were all important predictors of the overall quality of life. 6. The overall social supports for the residents of the residents of halfway houses had a partial mediate effect between the overall service using and the overall quality of life. 7.The overall social supports for the residents of the halfway houses had a complete mediate effect between the overall autonomy perception and the overall quality of life.8. The evaluative support for the residents of halfway houses had a partial mediate effect on interpersonal interaction and community adaptation, autonomy and quality of life.9. The assistive support for the residents of halfway houses had a partial mediate effect on interpersonal interaction and community adaptation, autonomy and quality of life. The suggestions of the research are as follows:1. Continue to enhance the interaction and community adaptation services provided by the halfway houses.2. Advocate that the main way of halfway house management should be the autonomic way.3.Continuously improve the emotional and apparel support provided by professionals.4. Develop treatment services to alleviate the side effects of medications, and provide support and assistance to the residents of halfway houses who are inconvenient due to the side effects of medications to improve their quality of life
