Abstract
In response to Taiwan's demographic challenges and the implementation of university internationalization policies, Taiwanese universities are actively recruiting overseas Chinese students. However, overseas Chinese students often face learning obstacles due to their proficiency in Chinese, especially when adapting to Chinese-based academic subjects. To aid in their transition, subject-oriented Chinese teaching materials are essential, yet currently unavailable in Taiwan. This study addresses this gap by designing Chinese teaching materials focused on civics and constitutional studies for overseas Chinese students at National Taiwan Normal University's Preparatory Program. This study conducted a literature review to compile and analyze relevant research and textbooks. The study also conducted a needs survey among learners from NTNU's Overseas Chinese Student Preparatory Program. Based on the survey results, teaching outlines and two complete lesson examples were designed and then reviewed by experts for further revisions. Finally, the teaching materials were evaluated by learners from NTNU's Overseas Chinese Students Preparatory Program, receiving positive feedback. The study highlights the learning challenges of overseas Chinese students in the subject of Civics and Constitutionalism. It assesses feedback from experts and learners on the materials and establishes principles for subject-oriented Chinese teaching materials. The goal is to enhance Chinese teaching materials, fostering better integration with academic subjects.
