Abstract
"Rondo" can be traced back to ancient European folk songs and dances. It began to develop during the Renaissance and continued until the 20th century. The "rondo" first developed as one of the movements in the repertoire, and then developed into an independent rondo. This dissertation will focus on the Chopin's four piano independent rondos, which is "op.1, op.5, op.73 and op.16". They were composed during Chopin’s early stage. Although these four works were not as stunning as his later works, they still brought vital aesthetic value. Chopin’s four piano independent rondos showed his writing talent and vitality. He innovated the traditional rondo writing style. For instance, he expanded the form structure of rondo. The introduction, transition and codas have been greatly expanded. Chopin’s music was fulfilled with extremely beautiful melody, harmonic colors and rhythm characteristics.Young Chopin was energetic and enthusiastic, it was the best time of his life during he composed these four works. Chopin traveled around, embracing the nature and pastoral scenery. Chopin was keen to participate in various folk singing and dancing activities in his youth. Moreover, he loved listening to Italian opera. All of these experiences became the nutrients in his music. This thesis is divided into six chapters in total. The first chapter will briefly describe the aim and method of my research. Chapter 2 will discuss the definition type and history of rondo. In the third chapter, this thesis will focus on the Chopin piano music style and four rondos for piano. The fourth chapter is about music analysis, and the fifth chapter will be the music interpretation. The final chapter chapter is the conclusion.
