zh_TW
This study aims to understand female politicians’ awareness and coping strategies to their mental health when engaging in politics. A female politician is defined as a cisgender female who are or have been politically engaged as their primary source of income. This study adopts the qualitative research method. It collects the experiences of five female politicians through semi-structured interviews, analyzes the data with a phenomenological approach, restores the subjective phenomenal experiences of the participants, and responds to the research findings from a feminist perspective. The results show: Female politicians are aware of physical changes, emotional changes, transitions to private life, and gender experiences during their participation in politics. In terms of coping strategies, their internal resources, interpersonal support or external help, cognitive change, and seeing the changes they promote are important supports for them to stay engaged. Implications for practices of counseling and future research directions were presented.en_US
